We interrupt this week of Canadian music to bring you breaking news; The Beatles have invaded, for a second time. Yes, I too have been sucked in by Beatlemania, buying an Xbox 360 just so I could play The Beatles Rockband, and purchasing all of The Beatles remasters. I got them in stereo first of all, because they were all out of the mono’s and I didn’t think I could wait that long for another shipment to arrive (anyway, I know someone who got a hold of a mono box set). Secondly, because they were on sale, down from a regular $21.99 CDN to $12.99 CDN. And finally, let’s not forget most importantly, The Beatles music finally getting the sound quality it rightly deserves.
I’m overwhelmed with the amount of effort and care EMI put into reproducing the entire Beatles catalog. These recordings come to life like never before, and the instruments come through the speakers so clear, it’s like a private show in your living room. The remasters demonstrate why the well known songs are so beloved and leave the lesser known songs left to be rediscovered. I love the fact that I can finally blast my Beatles albums through the walls while neighbors listen to their mp3s of Pussycat Dolls and just laugh while I completely annihilate it.
