Keep An Eye on the Sky was released today. Unfortunatly, all my cash was all put towards all the good Beatles stuff last week. The tracks on the Big Star remasters span from 1968-1975 and includes their first three albums, rarities, live tracks and unreleased material. It even includes some material from their previous bands, Icewater and Rock City.
Chris Bell and Alex Chilton were the main collaborators, after Chris invited Alex to join the band, after Alex’s departure from the hit making group, The Box Tops. As the band wore on and success seemed further and further away, slowly band members began to walk. After their debut flopped, Bell decided to leave the band and go work at his family resturant in Memphis. After Radio City, their band was reduced to just Alex Chilton and drummer Jody Stephens. Finally, after Third/Sister Lovers, the band turned into Alex Chilton’s solo career.
This almost 100 track box set comes alongside the deluxe release of Chris Bell’s only solo album I Am The Cosmos. Bell tragically died in 1979 in a car crash outside Memphis. The boxset also includes unreleased pictures, liner notes and articles about the bands mysterious history.
