James Mercer in feature length film?

The Shins James Mercer

Well, sort of. Apparently the lead singer of the Shins is the lead actor in Matt McCormick’s new film Some Days Are Better Than Others. This film also features the former drummer of Sleater-Kinney, Carrie Brownstein. This isn’t the first time the two have worked together on a project, as Matt McCormick created the character that Mercer plays in the Shins’ music video Past & Pending. McCormick also worked with the Shins on their 2008 Austrilia video. Truth is, I’m a real sucker for the Shins, even though James Mercer is kind of an ass. Their first album Oh Inverted World is the perfect autumn album, with Mercer’s heavy reverb and acoustic guitar ringing out. Their second Chutes Too Narrow allows the rest of the band a chance to shine and the attention to detail on the album is astounding. I might just have to see this film, just to keep up my Shins’ fill. (Some Days Are Better Than Others is slated to come out some time this Autumn/Winter.)
