Without Gram Parsons, there was no International Submarine Band, without Gram Parsons, The Byrds couldn’t survive anymore, and without Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers were completely grounded. The man was building a reputation for himself, and upon the release of The Gilded Palace of Sin in 1969, as an extremely talented songwriter. Though the album only sold a few copies at the time, there was a cult following that supported the band, including The Rolling Stones, who covered the song Wild Horses. Even though Parsons ended up dying of an overdose in 1973, his legacy as the father of country-rock continued to grow and his influence can be heard in music today.
